The City of Madisonville Transportation Department is responsible for maintaining 162 miles of streets inside the city limits of Madisonville. The Transportation Department handles all issues related to the maintenance and drainage in the right of ways, storm sewers, sidewalks, curbs & gutters, city owned parking lots and snow and ice control.

The Transportation Department also handles all traffic control functions of the city. These include the fabrication and installations of all traffic control signs and the painting of crosswalks, curbs, parking spaces, parking lots and school crossings.

Each year the city receives "municipal aid" money to resurface an average of 5 miles of street which is contracted out ot paving companies. In addition, the Transportation Department is responsible for using asphalt to fill pot holes, pave short sections of streets, and for the maintenance of utility cuts by water leaks and sewer repairs.
